The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has today Friday 21st January commenced the diaspora voter registration.

In a statement, IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati said that the exercise runs for the next 15 days will end on 6th February 2022.

According to the commission, the registration exercise would take place during official working hours at Kenyan Embassies, High Commissions, and Consulates in the relevant countries

“Present yourself with a valid Kenyan Passport to your Kenyan Embassy or Consulate…For Kenyan citizens residing within East Africa, you may use a valid Passport or an Original Kenyan ID to register. Usibaki Nyuma! IEBC Inakutambua. Jiandikishe Leo,” stated Chebukati.

IEBC has added seven more countries to the list of Diaspora voting in the General Election.

Kenyans living in the United Kingdom, Canada, United States of America (USA), South Sudan, Qatar, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Germany will have an opportunity to participate in this year’s polls.

This brings the total number of Diaspora countries that will participate in the election to 12. In 2017 only Kenyans in Burundi, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa participated in the election.

Kenyans living in the Diaspora will only vote for their preferred Presidential candidate.

The current mass voter registration exercise also taking place in all 1,450 County Assembly Wards (CAWs) countrywide started on 17th January.

The commission targets to register an additional 4.5 million eligible voters.
