The first episode of one of Showmax’s Kenyan original series’ Igiza is finally streaming on the platform. Speaking about the show’s adaptation during a media screening last week, the show’s director Abdi Shuria said that he used the Kenyan experience to shape the narrative of the show. “…we chose to, of course, work with an excellent writing team and spent, a couple of days just doing story work, shaping, developing the story, uh, developing the characters, the plot lines always focusing on what is currently relevant and relatable to the Kenya audience,” said Abdi.

The drama integrates within its episodes themes about sexual assault, money laundering, love triangles and a rocky marriage.

Serah Ndanu who plays the two main characters, both Linda and Nicole said she did plenty of research for her role.

“I think the most amazing thing has been, um, the research that I’ve done. Uh, just trying to understand who Linda is, just trying to understand who Nicole is trying to watch shows and films that have such characters…” said Serah Ndanu.

The 44-minute episode is now streaming on Showmax.
