Former President Daniel Arap Moi’s grandson, Collins Kibet, has said he can only do very little for his two children with ex-wife Gladys Jeruto.

Kibet, who has been sued in a Nakuru court for allegedly failing on his fatherly responsibilities, claimed that he was very broke.

The former spouse is demanding Ksh1 million every month as maintenance for their offspring aged 11 and nine.

In an affidavit to counter Jeruto’s big demands, Kibet said he did not have any source of income to contribute such a huge amount.

He said the only thing he can afford is annual fees for the minors’ health cover and it must be State-owned National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) card.

“I’m financially strained at the moment and unable to offer more than what I’m offering here, and the applicant, who is my immediate neighbour at home knows this fact very well,” he said.

With no employment, Kibet claimed that he depends on friends and relatives to make ends meet.

He also indicated that he wants his children to be transferred to a public school so that the government can sponsor their education.

“As a result of my depression diagnosis and the resultant loss of business, my personal finances have been greatly affected to the point where I depend on the goodwill of my friends and relatives to meet my immediate needs.”

In addition, he said he never married Jeruto as she claimed. Kibet alleged that at the time they were in a relationship he was not mentally stable.

He had initially denied being the father of the kids, but DNA tests confirmed paternity.
