When retired President Mwai Kibaki celebrated his 90th birthday last week, only close family members joined him at his plush Muthaiga home in Nairobi to mark the big day.

His son Jimmy Kibaki attended the low-key party with one of his wives, Catherine.

Catherine is Jimmy’s second wife.

His first wife is Sherly Anne, who is a Kenyan of Indian origin.

The two met at the prestigious St Mary’s School in Nairobi and settled down years later.

They have been blessed with three children – Mwai Kibaki Junior, Sean Andrew, and Emma Ngini. Unlike his siblings and parents, Sean has a remarkable social media presence.

However, it is not clear when Jimmy married Catherine.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that he married her on being encouraged by his late mother, Lucy, just before his father retired.

The second union happened at a time when they was speculations that Jimmy would succeed his dad as the Othaya Member of Parliament.

Since Jimmy and Catherine have never revealed anything about their private life, it is hard to tell whether they have children.

The details of the relationship between Jimmy and his first wife are also not in the public domain. Therefore, we can only guess the three are doing fine in their union.
