The political tiff between Ukambani leaders over the exit of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka from Azimio la Umoja coalition is getting uglier.

The Wiper party is accusing governors Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) of isolating and undermining Kalonzo ever since he joined the coalition.

Wiper Deputy Secretary-General Dan Maanzo regretted that Ngilu took her political differences with Kalonzo to Azimio with an intention of orchestrating his political downfall.

The Makueni MP and Kalonzo’s close ally said the Kamba community was duped by Raila warning the Chief Minister’s position should not excite them since its nonexistent.

“We have no issue with Martha Karua but let it be known that Ngilu was the first to propose her yet she was aware we had fronted Kalonzo. Who does that? She is the one undermining the community. The position offered to Kalonzo is not in the constitution. We should have been given a viable slot like the interior or foreign affairs docket” said Maanzo during an interview Wednesday on Mwatu FM.

He chided the two governors for fooling Kambas by peddling lies about Kalonzo.

“These noisemakers should tell the truth that Raila does not have the interest of our community at heart. How come he never allocated the two cabinet slots?” he posed.

He decried the perennial political rivalry pointing out that if Kamba leaders had united they would have enhanced their bargaining power. He said Kalonzo still has his grip on the region with majority MPs.

“It is Ngilu and Kibwana who are losers. They cannot see beyond because of their disloyalty. If they had sat and worked with Kalonzo they would be telling a different narrative” he stated.

He said the election is about numbers and Raila would never win without the Kamba vote.

“Kalonzo is a pillar in Ukambani, the stone that the builders rejected. A house built without him will sink, and so will Raila” he said.

He said his party leader remains a force to reckon with adding that his fresh quest for the top seat together with his deputy Andrew Sunkuli had appealed to the marginalized communities.

His parting shot revealed that the party is open to post-election coalition talks and possibly a  handshake with the winning team.

“ We had negotiations with Raila and the President but they did not lay all the cards on the table. We said enough is enough. We know our worth because they are still reaching out to us” he said.

“Politics is politics and every side needs us. Who knows there could be a re-run and the Kalonzo factor will turn the tide” he added.
