Jackline Mwende whose hands were chopped off by her husband in 2016 has opened up on a fateful day.

Speaking to Radio Jambo on Wednesday, the mother of one said she was married through a church wedding by a man who was a leader in the church.

On the way, Mwende said her ex-husband turned to alcohol and started coming home late.

She recounted the day when he came home carrying a panga and slashed her two hands.

I can vividly recall the 18 July 2016. We got married in a wedding, it got somewhere his family wanted to get a child.

I always told them it is God who give out children. He was not a drunkard and he turned out to be drunkard. He was a church man.

Mwende added;

He knocked the door and I opened and he started hacking at my hands. He told me I will never speak again. I watched a dog picking my arm and running with it. I started screaming and a boy went and reported to his parents.

Asked if she was cheating on her husband, Mwende said she was a faithful woman and had never gone out with another man.

The whole incident left my parent sick since then they have pressure from the trauma I went through.
Raising my child without my hands was not easy. My parents have been taking care of me and my child.

Stephen Ngila Nthenge, the man who slashed the hands of  Jackline Mwende in July 2016, was jailed for 30 years.

Machakos Senior Resident Magistrate Brenda Bartoo said the prosecution proved beyond any reasonable doubt that Ngila committed the heinous crime.

Ngila, who was charged with attempted murder, has 14 days to appeal the decision.

Speaking after the ruling was delivered, Mwende, a resident of Mwala in Machakos County, said justice ‘has finally been served’ but she will never forgive him’.

My life changed permanently after both hands of mine were slashed by the convict.

I will never forgive him. He has made my parents and I to suffer for what he did to me. I have left everything to God and so forgiving him will be hard.
