Comedian Felix Odiwour, popularly known as Jalang’o, has received a major boost in his quest for the Lang’ata parliamentary seat after his main opponent in Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) pulled out.
Lawyer Silas Jakakimba, who is a close aide of ODM leader Raila Odinga, announced that he quit the race to focus on other matters that will help his boss ascends to the presidency.
Jakakimba said he will support whomever Azimio la Umoja will pick to fly its ticket in the area.
“Due to emerging and critical issues, assignment in the past several months, I’ve had to skip on my earlier intention to stand for elective public office including the empty Lang’ata parliamentary seat where I will offer all the support to whoever emerges as the Change Movement’s candidate.
“Even so, my desire to continue serving the people in the current and other capacities has never waned a bit. In that respect, I’ll continue playing my role at the Raila Odinga Secretariat to ensure HE Raila Odinga clinches the much-awaited decisive and resounding victory,” he said.
With Jakakimba’s exit, it means Jalang’o’s work has been made easier, particularly in getting the ODM nomination.
The funnyman-turned-politician has indicated that should he fail to get the ODM ticket, he will opt out and go back to radio.
However, even with the ODM blessings, he will square it out with the incumbent, Nixon Korir of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Korir wrestled the seat from ODM in 2017 in a slim victory that shocked many people.
Sibling rivalry among outfits that formed the National Super Alliance (Nasa) was blamed for the loss. Wiper, ANC, and Ford-Kenya candidates spoiled the party for ODM.
