KTN presenter Jamal Gaddafi has called it quits at the Standard Group-owned station after eight years of gracing your screens.

The media sensation hosted his last Iwake TV show on January 29, 2022.

Taking to the socials, Jamal penned an emotional message to his fans, saying that he was ready to pursue his dream of becoming a Malindi Member of Parliament (MP) after the 2022 polls in August.

“It’s time for a new adventure. Yesterday [Saturday] was my last show at KTN as I start a new chapter of my life in politics. What an epic 8 years. Thank you to everyone who supported me and my shows. Let’s go out big!” his message read.

This comes after a directive by the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) that all journalists seeking elective seats should resign before February.

“As it applies in the public service, where civil servants intending to vie for political office are required to leave office six months to elections and are under strict edicts not to use their space and influence to campaign for political office, the media is no exception,” MCK announced.

In a recent interview, Jamal had urged Malindi constituents to come out in large numbers and register as voters before the second mass enlisting of voters by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ends on February 6.

“Kura yako ndio silaha ya kwako na IEBC wako pale mtaani. Ukichukua silaha yako na ukinipa kura yako, hunipi kama kiongozi, naja kama mtetezi wa watu wa Malindi. Kwa hivo chukua kura yako ili uweze kunipa kazi ya kuwa mtetezi wako kama vile nkapigwa ngumi nyuma, kifua kiko mbele kutetea haki na vitu vya watu wa Malindi.

“(IEBC is right in our neighbourhoods, so I ask all eligible residents of Malindi to register as voters in the coming elections. Your vote is your power. And if you vote for me, I promise not to be a leader but an advocate, to fight for the people of Malindi. I’ll be like a person who’s being pushed from behind – at the forefront in fighting for the rights and resources of the people of Malindi),” he stated.

He confirmed that he will be vying under Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket and had submitted his name for the nomination process.

When asked if he will contest as an independent candidate if he loses on party primaries, Jamal said that he will support the successful candidate and also work together to promote people-centered administration.
