James Gakara, the Nakuru-based doctor who is accused of killing his children last week has died.
He passed away while at the Nakuru Level Five Hospital where he had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Gakuru was found unconscious at his house in Milimani, Nakuru Couty on Saturday, September 18. Also in the house were his two children, Dylan Gakara, five, and three-year-old Karuana Gakara.
The three were rushed to the hospital, but the minors were already dead.
It is suspected that the gynaecologist injected the kids with insulin.
Police recovered used syringes and drugs whose component is yet to be established. The substances have been taken to the government chemist for analysis.
Before allegedly eliminating the two, Gakara had taken his children to an undisclosed location, tagging along with the house help.
However, the house help was not with him when they returned later that evening, according to neighbour.
He locked the door from the evening and what happened between that time and when the police arrived remains unknown.
Willie Odhiambo, the mother of the minors and wife to Gakara, was in Nairobi when all these happened.
After receiving the sad news, Odhiambo, who is a nurse, went into shock and was hospitalised for a day.
The family of Gakara has, however, defended him, saying he was a man who would do anything to protect his children.
She suspected foul play and accused the police of rushing to conclusions with any investigations.
“He loved his family and we have never heard of any differences between him and his wife. He is not the kind of person to commit such an act,” his sister, Mary Gakara said.
