National Assembly Minority Leader John Mbadi was on Wednesday chased away from Parliament for being disorderly.
The Speaker ordered the lawmaker to leave Parliament Buildings following an altercation with Sigwot MP Koros Bernard.
Mbadi allegedly punched his colleague in the face, leaving him with a bleeding cut.
“Mr. Speaker, I have been attacked by the master of violence in this House and now I can’t see,” Koros claimed.
The speaker chased Mbadi and suspended him from attending five sittings.
However, the Suba South lawmaker said he was not given a chance to defend himself.
He claimed that Koros bit his finger and was acting in self-defense.
“I have no regrets. That MP used his teeth to bite my finger. I was just defending myself, but the Speaker was very biased. I don’t understand why he took a unilateral decision,” he said.
The drama happened during an explosive special sitting in which legislators were debating the controversial Political Parties (Amendment) Bill, 2021.
Allies of Deputy President William Ruto pulled all kinds of theatrics to forestall the passing of the Bill, which is being fronted by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga’s brigade.
The proposed amendments will allow parties to form a coalition political party while reserving their discrete identities.
However, Dr. Ruto claims that the changes are meant to help Raila force coalitions “because no one is willing to work with him after betraying his political partners in the past”.
The DP wondered why the public and other stakeholders were not involved during the formulation of the bill.
