Little-known John Njuguna Wanjiku would first be introduced to Kenyans on 21st May when the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominated him to be its flag bearer for the Kiambaa parliamentary contest.
The soft-spoken 35-year-old promised to deliver the seat, and sure he did.
But given that he was not popular like his main competitor in the by-election Kariri Njama of Jubilee Party, the UDA team had to work harder to prop him up.
During the campaigns, Wanjiku would describe himself as a “hustler” who has worked his way up despite the many challenges he faced while growing.
He won the mini-poll after garnering 21,773 votes. Njama got 21,263 votes.
But Who is This Man Who Humiliated the Ruling Party?
According to Wanjiku, he is the last born in his family.
Speaking during an interview with Inooro TV, the new Kiambaa MP revealed that he and his other siblings were raised by a single mother.
He added that his mother did menial jobs to feed and educate her children.
His mother died in 2010 when he was still a young man.
Before joining politics, Wanjiku did several odd jobs to subsist.
A report by whoownskenya.com indicated that he once sold Matumbo (animal intestines) to make ends meet.
He worked as struggling car dealer before he was elected a Member of Parliament.
The youthful politician, however, has not been without controversy.
In February this year, he alleged that he had been kidnapped by people who identified themselves as police officers.
He claimed that the abductors warned him against supporting Deputy President William Ruto before undressing and torturing him.
The kidnappers reportedly dumped him at a forest in Uasin Gishu County
