NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 27-Kenya Airports Authority has set aside Sh200 million for the expansion of Kisumu Airport as part of preparations for next year’s Africities summit.

KAA Managing Director Alex Gitari says the procurement process is complete with the contractor expected on site in a fortnight.

“Other logistics including procurement have been finalized with the expected completion of works slated within 90 days,” Gitari said.

He says more funds will be available should there be other works to be furnished at the facility.

Gitari was speaking in Kisumu at the Kisumu International Airport during the inaugural of a new flight, Renegade Air, which will be flying from Wilson airport twice daily to Kisumu

The KAA MD says they have identified three key components that will see the rehabilitation of parking lots for both aircrafts and vehicles complete with a modernized VIP lounge.

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa who made the maiden first trip to Kisumu of Renegade Air, told journalists that the 9th edition of Africities summit has been pushed by a month.

Wamalwa says the decision to postpone the summit was reached after consultation with the United Nations.
