Governor Joseph Lenku has insisted that Kajiado county is dominantly an Azimio la Umoja backyard and not battle ground as it is been reported by opinion pollsters.

Lenku who is seeking his re-election on the Jubilee ticket also welcomed the former area governor David Nkedianye who ditched Orange Democratic Movement to join the ruling party ahead of nominations just a few months before August elections.

“I can authoritatively say that my county Kajiado is in Azimio and the area should not be mistaken for battle ground. Our common enemy as those in Azimio is ensuring UDA doesn’t perform even though there’s no chance. I have to tell you we now have a substantive presidential candidate.I will deploy Jubilee’s red army in Kajiado to campaign in every village so that we deliver the votes,”Lenku said.

Earlier this month while speaking in Kajiado during the launch of Universal Health Care Scheme, Lenku said Azimio leadership had a mechanism for establishing the most popular candidate further urging Nkedianye to stop crying foul over joint primaries and instead focus on strengthening the coalition so as to secure himself a plum job in government.

Lenku and his allies in the county assembly termed those opposed to having joint candidates under Azimio as enemies of the aspirations of what the handshake between Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta intended to achieve.

He lauded his regime for maintaining peace and harmony in the county inhabited by most non-maasai communities whom he said have been great people and coexisted well with the rest of the area locals.

“Since my admnistration ascended to leadership it’s been a smooth sailing and we have lived as brothers and sisters unlike during past regime where people fought and scrambled for ownership of land among other issues. Those who are non pastoralists have settled well and condusively engaged in their business activities without any interruption” he added.

Another Azimio ticket hopeful Tarayia Ole Kores has backed Mr Lenku’s stance, saying, winning the presidency was the ultimate prize if their people have to benefit from the resources and privileges associated with national government.

Kajiado East MP Peris Tobiko, Kajiado South MP Katoo Ole Metito and former National Transport and Safety Authority boss Francis Meja will face off in a scramble for Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA gubernatorial ticket in the party primaries.
