The Governing Council of the Amani National Congress (ANC) has expelled Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala from the Party.
The Council which convened Friday said that its decision was called upon after the Senator failed to respond to charges levelled against him on several invitations.
“Honourable Malala was given adequate and fair chance to defend himself but the member snubbed the invitation and called the entire process and officials names,” said ANC Party.
The ANC had accused the Kakamega Senator of being disloyal to the party and the party leader.

“The special meeting of the NGC hereby adopts and ratifies the resolution for internal disciplinary of the party and NEC expelling Hon Cleophas Malala from the party membership,” read part of the statement.
The decision to expel the Senator was informed by the party’s disciplinary committee.
Meanwhile, the ANC Party has extended the tenure of the current office bearers after the party failed to conduct elections on its leadership.
Dr Alutalala Mukhwana stated that the postponement of the elections was brought about by measures the Government had put in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Some of the measures prohibit public gatherings until the virus is contained,” he said.
“No one knows for sure when this will end and it was impossible in the circumstances to conduct countrywide party elections as required by our constitution,” he added.
The Governing Council adopted to postpone the elections pending easing of the COVID-19 containment measures.
“The special meeting of the National Governing Council, having full cognizance of the peculiarity of our present COVID-19 induced situation, hereby adopts and ratifies the resolution of the National Executive Council to postpone the holding of the party elections for the next 36 months,” said ANC Party.
