Kieni Member of Parliament Kanini Kega has reiterated his support for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga ahead of the upcoming polls set for August this year.
The two term vocal legislator and key ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta in the Mt Kenya region has said he will continue traversing the whole country in popularizing Azimio la Umoja movement agenda in a bid to make Odinga Kenya’s 5th President of the republic of Kenya.
“Despite the propaganda from UDA sympathizers I will not be swayed in changing my overwhelming support for Baba whom I will do everything to convince Kenyans especially the good of people of Central to endorse his candidature. He means well and his track record when he served with the retired President Kibaki during coalition government speaks for itself. Azimio will form the next government and that’s not even debatable” he said
The Budget and Appropriations committee chairman has been part of cabal of politicians dubbed as The Sky Team, which comprises a few governors and MPs crisscrossing several parts of the country to attend campaign rallies in selling the manifesto of Orange Democratic Movement leader.
He further noted that Mt Kenya region which traditionally rejected Odinga will rally behind his bid and he will continue countering deputy president William Ruto’s hustler nation influence in the region, saying Kenyans are now ready for the Raila presidency.
According to the vibrant legislator, the peace that is currently being experienced in Kenya is a product of the handshake that was entered between president Uhuru Kenyatta and former prime minister Raila Odinga, which is the main reason informing their support for him.
“Raila needs to be rewarded because the country is experiencing peace following his handshake with president Uhuru,” remarked Kega.
Last week,Kega who is also the Jubilee’s Party Elections Director said Azimio La Umoja would not allow individual interests to make the coalition vulnerable to rival Kenya Kwanza.
He said Azimio would be forced to field one candidate for every seat in areas like Nairobi, to have a better chance of winning.
“We will agree on candidates because we don’t want to split our votes,” added Kega.
Central Kenya has been lately considered the most hunting ground for votes with top Presidential candidates Ruto and Odinga all eyeing the support of the region in a bid to solidly their ambitions for the top seat.
Already the two are said to be going for running mates from the area.
Of those touted for the positions in the two teams are 2013 presidential candidate Peter Kenneth, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya and NARC Kenya party leader Martha Karua for Mr Odinga while DP’s side has Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, MPs Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), Alice Wahome (Kandara) and Kiharu’s Ndindi Nyoro despite having met the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nomination deadlines to defend their seats.
