Deputy President William Ruto was scheduled to name his running mate at 10am on Saturday.

More than five hours later, journalists and Kenyans are still waiting.

By the time of filling this report, it was not clear when the running mate will be announced.

The delay has caused a lot of speculations on social media platforms.

Some netizens claim that disagreements have occasioned the long wait.

As of last evening, Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki and Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua were the frontrunners for the position.

Both Kindiki and Gachagua have have a backing in Ruto’s inner circle.

Those opposed to Gachagua argue that corruption scandals have tainted his name.

However, Gachagua supporters are of the view that he is a great mobiliser and has stood with the DP through thick and thin.

On the other hand, Kindiki is viewed as a “clean” because he has never been involved in scams.

But Kindiki’s critics argue that he is too soft.

Dr Ruto had said selecting a running mate will be the easiest job for him, but now it proving otherwise.

Presidential and gubernatorial candidates have until Monday, May 16 to name their running mate.
