Narc Kenya party leader Martha embarked on a homecoming tour on Tuesday, a day after she was crowned the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya presidential running mate by Raila Odinga.

During the first day of the homecoming which began at her native Kirinyaga county, Karua called on Mt Kenya residents, who had turned up to warmly welcome her, to rally behind the Azimio la Umoja coalition in the August 9th, 2022 general elections.

“My work is to come and talk to you. I will be visiting here until the day of the elections to ensure we are all looking in one direction. The direction is to support Azimio la Umoja led by our presidential flag bearer Raila Amolo Odinga being deputized by myself Martha Wangari Karua”.

According to Karua, the ODM leader deserves a chance to lead the country given his ‘outstanding’ track record in leadership. He said the former Prime Minister has demonstrated over the years that he has the interests of all Kenyans at heart.

“I am asking you to support Raila for Presidency. He has fought for and defended the ordinary citizens of this country in many respects. He has never grown weary pushing for the rights of all Kenyans,” she said during one of the roadside meetings in Kirinyaga.

Karua who was in the company of Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya and a host of Jubilee leaders led by Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni and Director of Elections Kanini Kega, noted that the interests of the populous region will be taken care of by a Raila-Odinga-led government.

“We in Mt Kenya have to exercise a lot of care come the day of the election. I will be in government (to be formed by Azimio la Umoja), and Munya too will be in. Don’t you feel well represented already inside that government?” she posed

Munya lauded the nomination of Karua who she described as a reformist. He said the Narc Kenya leader had over the years demonstrated that she is up to the task if given a chance to lead.

“We know Karua and what she stands for. We know her history. She is never corrupt. Working with Raila, the two will transform Kenya,” the Agriculture CS said

Kega expressed confidence in the Raila-Karua ticket noting that the two will receive huge backing from residents of Central Kenya.

“We are telling our competitors that it is not business as usual in Mt Kenya. We now have Martha Karua,” the lawmaker said
