NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 7 – The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) on Tuesday hosted a workshop on aviation safety to mark the observance of the International Civil Aviation Day in Kenya.
The theme of this year’s International Civil Aviation Day is “advancing innovation for Global Aviation development.”
KCAA assembled participants from Aircraft Maintenance Organizations (AMOS) and Air Operator certificate (AOC) holders to deliberate on aviation safety in the Country.
Senior KCAA leaders, led by KCAA Director General, Capt. Gilbert Kibe were present during this workshop.
The aviation authority noted the state of aviation safety in the country remained a critical concern especially with the increased political activities ahead of the 2022 elections with most politicians and the festive season.
“In particular, more helicopter flights will be witnessed in the campaign period, as has been the case in the past,” KCAA noted.
“This therefore calls for more vigilance on aviation safety to avoid any harm that may be caused by neglect of the aviation safety rules and procedures,” a statement dispatched by the agency read.
The safety workshop brought together aviation leaders in the country and the region, who explored in depth the safety issues that are useful to enhance secure aviation activities in the country.
Speaking during the workshop, Capt. Gilbert Kibe said, “civil aviation sector has had a great social impact since aviation helps bring people together more than any other means of transport.”

Capt. Kibe added that civil aviation connectivity “has allowed people visit friends, family and experience the world cultures and has also provided access to better healthcare and education.”
During the workshop, it was disclosed that every day, 128,000 flights take off carrying 12.5 million passengers.
“This is phenomenal, bringing with it huge socio-economic impacts locally and globally,” KCAA noted.
International Civil Aviation Day seeks to create awareness around the world about the core role of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which provides a comprehensive global network for welfare and benefit of mankind.
