Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has finally given an update on the status of the Kangemi bridge tragedy that sent a section of Kenyans into panic mode.
This is after the soil around the retaining wall of the Kangemi bridge collapsed leading to some workers getting injured.
According to KeNHA, one of the workers who was injured and rushed to hospital is recuperating well and is in stable condition.
Two of the victim’s colleagues survived the accident with
minor injuries.
“Amid ongoing works along the James Gichuru-Rironi Road project
at Kangemi, the soil around the retaining wall of Kangemi Bridge collapsed.
“One of the workers on site was rushed to hospital and is in stable condition. Two other workers survived the accident with minor injuries. All of the workers on site have been accounted for even as work to secure the scene is ongoing,” KenHA said in a statement.
The Highway authority also regretted the accident saying it will exercise more caution henceforth to avert such an unfortunate incident.
“KeNHa regrets this unfortunate incident and is keen to
ensure that safety is a priority in all roads projects,” KeNHA added in the
same statement.
The Monday incident caused panic among Kenyans who feared
that many could lose their lives following the tragedy.
KeNHA’s statement serves as a reprieve to many given that those involved have survived the accident.
