The Kenyan Government has issued a statement to its citizens living in Ukraine following Russia’s move to annex some of its territories.

Kenya has said on February 25 that it is still checking on the state of affairs in both Russia and Ukraine before giving a final decision.

Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary, Macharia Kamau, has stated that the 18 Kenyans who permanently live in Ukraine and 183 who have temporary citizenship status can leave the country at their own will.

“Kenyans have been advised that if they do not feel comfortable, they should leave of their own free will. They need to judge the circumstances and decide. Only parts of the country are affected by warfare,” Macharia told a local publication.

This comes just a day after Ukrainian Ambassador Andrii Pravednyk urged world leaders to unite against the Russian foray.

“Our partners should immediately enact a package of new sanctions. We also call on friendly capitals to continue to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities by providing additional weapons and military equipment,” he stated.

Reports by BBC indicate that Russia had already launched air attacks through missiles and jet fighters, and 137 people (civilians and the military) were reportedly killed, with scores maimed by the offensive.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that they are aiming to conquer Eastern Ukraine, and they are careful in only protecting the Russians that live in the disputed area.
