The Kenya Prisons Service has announced details of its upcoming recruitment exercise.
The exercise seeks to bring on board male and female prisons constables, general cadet officers, medical cadet officers and medical technicians. The recruitment of prisons constables will begin on 8th February, 2022 at 8.00 am at centres across the 47 counties. (See end of story for venues).
Prospective candidates must carry their national ID, birth certificate, KRA Pin certificate, academic certificates and other testimonials on the day of recruitment. Successful candidates will undergo government-sponsored intense para-military training for a period lasting not less than nine months.
Qualifications for Prisons Constables:
Must be a Kenyan citizen
Have a valid Identification card
Have no criminal record
Have a KCSE minimum grade of D+ and above or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
Be between the ages of 18 and 28 years for secondary school leavers
Be at least 5 feet 4 Inches tall for men and 5 feet 2 Inches tall for women
Be physically and medically fit
Must have good hearing and clear vision
Female candidates must not be pregnant at the time of training and during the entire training period.
General Cadets, Medical Cadet Officers and Medical Technicians
The KPS will also be recruiting general cadets, medical cadet officers and medical technicians.
Several roles are available for general cadets – from social workers to surgeons, lawyers, sociologists and statisticians. Several roles re also included under medical technicians. (See end of story for all positions).
All interested and qualified persons can make their applications by filling the PSC.2 (Revised 2016) application form which can be downloaded from the public service website. They are to attach clear photocopies of relevant academic/professional certificates and their national IDs.
Completed applications should be addressed to the Commissioner General of Prisons and delivered to Prisons Headquarters at Magereza House by 11th February, 2022. Magereza House is located along Bishops road, in the Community area.
Successfully shortlisted candidates will be notified via print media by 1st March, 2022.

Academic/Technical Qualifications:
For Medical Practitioners
A minimum mean grade of C+ at KCSE
An undergraduate/postgraduate degree from a recognized institution of higher learning
Registered with the relevant bodies
For General Cadets
A minimum mean grade of C+ at KCSE
A relevant undergraduate degree from a recognized institution of higher learning
For Medical Technicians
A minimum mean grade of C (plain) at KCSE or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
Posses a relevant diploma/certificate from a recognized institutions and be registered with the relevant statutory bodies
