Kenyan International Jesse Were Exits Zambian Giants Zesco United

National team, Harambee Stars striker Jesse Were has left Zambian champions Zesco United after five years at the club.

Were whose contract runs out on 31st December, 2021 joined the Zambian side in 2016 and went on to win four league titles, two Absa Cups and two Charity Shield honours.

Confirming his departure, Zesco CEO Richard Mulenga described Were as one of the most dedicated servants of the beautiful game.

“Five years ago, we brought Jesse Jackson Were to Ndola as part of our roadmap towards assembling a strong Zesco United side. Today, we can proudly say that he has been a success story for this team,” Mulenga told the club’s official website.

“Were’s winning mentality has been a catalyst to the growth of this football club. No one will ever forget the goals he has scored for this team and the joy he brought not only to us but also to the Zesco United fans.

“He is a true servant of the beautiful game who also sold his country to the outside world very well. We wish him the best luck in his next journey,”

The 32-year-old who has scored over 100 goals is the club’s all-time tops scorer

He departs the club together with Zimbabwean midfielder Tafadzwa Rusike who joined the club from Zanaco two years ago.
