Kenya’s Covid-19 Cases Near 300,000 Mark as 1,354 Test Positive

The Ministry of Health has announced 1,354 new Covid-19 cases from the 5,331 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

This brings to 298,509, the total number of confirmed cases from the 3,042,313 samples tested so far. The country’s positivity rate is at 25.4 per cent.

In a statement issued on Sunday, 2nd January, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that from the new cases, 1,102 are Kenyans while 252 are foreigners, with 687 being males and 667 females. The youngest is a one-year-old-infant while the oldest is 105.

Some 400 patients have recovered from the disease, 216 were discharged from various hospitals, and 184 from the home-based and isolation care, raising the total to 254,115.

The Covid-19 death toll rose to 5,384 after three more patients succumbed to the virus.
