Kenyan long-distance runner, Judith Jeptum is the winner of the 2022 edition of the Paris Marathon.

The 26-year-old won the Sunday morning, 3rd April race after she clocked an impressive 2 hours, 19 minutes and 48 seconds, a new course record.

Jeptum crossed the finish line ahead of Ethiopia’s Fanti Jimma who finished second in 2:22:52, with her compatriot Besu Sado completing the race in a time of 2:23:16.

Speaking after her victory, Jeptum admitted that it was difficult for her to run due to harsh weather conditions in Paris.

“In the beginning, the weather was very cold, and it is very difficult to run in 2 degrees, but I tried my best. From 6km, I tried to push a lot but it was not easy,” Jeptum said as quoted by Euro Sport.

Jeptum broke the previous record for the event (2h 20 min 55 sec) which had been set by her compatriot Purity Rionoripo in 2017.

Meanwhile, in the men’s category, Ethiopian Deso Gelmisa won the race after timing 2:05:07. His compatriot Seifu Tura settled for second place in a time of 2:05:10. Frenchman Morhad Amdouni claimed third place after timing 2:05:22.
