Former Los Angeles Marathon Champion Elisha Kiprop and little-known Valentine Kipketer are the winners of the 18th edition of the 2021 Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon held on Sunday, 31st October.
Kiprop won the 42km race in 2:11.07 beating Alphonce Kigen (2:11:11) and Joshua Kogo (2:11:14) who finished in second and third place respectively.
In the women’s category, Kipketer outsmarted Naomi Chepkogei Maiyo to win the race in 2 hours, 30 minutes and 02 seconds.
Chepkogei came second after clocking in 2:32:23 while Lilian Chemweno came third in 2:34:14.
In other results, Vincent Ng’etich won the men’s 21km half marathon race in a time of 1:01:44 beating Rhonzas Kilimo who came second in 1:00:59. Peter Kipsirat finished third in a time of 1:00:59.
In the women’s 21km event, Peris Engambi won in a time of 1:12:59 with Abigael Jelimo finishing second in a time of 1:13:41. Lilian Jebii came third after clocking 1:14:32.
Geoffrey Kipchumba won the men’s 10km race with a time of 28.27.2. Second place went to Raynold Kipkorir, who clocked 28.38.8. Patrick Mosin finished third with a time of 28:59.4.
The women’s 10km race was won by Faith Chepkoech, who clocked 33:15.0. Dorothy Kipkilach in a time of 33:30.7 while Sharon Jemutai finished third in 33:31.5.
Winners in both categories each walked away with Ksh2 million.
