Kisumu Health CEC Prof Nyunya Dies in Nairobi

The Kisumu County County Executive Committee Member for Health, Prof Boaz Otieno Nyunya, has passed away.

Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, who confirmed the news, said that Prof Nyunya died on Thursday, 29th July, at a Nairobi hospital.

“Prof Nyunya, a widely experienced medic, researcher, and scholar, passed on in Nairobi today morning following a short illness, aged 65. As a county, we have lost a worker and a team player who instilled visionary leadership and gave real direction to the department,” Governor Nyong’o said.

He described Nyunya as the epitome of professionalism and hard work.

“During his short stint in the department, Prof Nyunya created a brand for exemplary services. In the cabinet, he kept us on our toes with detailed and accurate delivery of Covid-19 reports and mitigation measures,” added Nyong’o.

Prof Nyunya joined the Kisumu County Government in April last year after working at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and the CDC. He also worked at the Moi University, Department of Reproductive Health for over two decades.

Prof Nyong’o said Prof Nyunya would be remembered for driving the Kisumu Marwa Health Insurance Scheme, which targets vulnerable families.
