Public transport operators in Kisumu want the government to set up vaccination centres at various bus termini to increase uptake.
The operators claim that long queues at various health facilities where the vaccine is offered was the reason some Kenyans do not seek the jab.
As of December 27, just about 97 thousand people have been fully vaccinated in Kisumu County against a target population of 656,147.
According to public transport operators in Kisumu, the recent announcement by the Ministry of Health barring unvaccinated people from accessing in-person government services or accessing social amenities may not necessarily drive Kenyans to get the jab.
The operators also want the government to conduct more sensitization campaigns since some Kenyans still feared that the vaccine could bear devastating effects on them.
In Kisumu County with a target population of about 657 thousand adults, just about 97 thousand people have been fully vaccinated as of December 27, representing a paltry 14.8 percent.
