Kisumu to Host International Rugby Test Match Between Kenya and South Africa

Kisumu County is set to host an International Rugby Test match between Kenya Simbas and South Africa’s Springboks.

The match slated for 26th March 2022 is to be played at the new Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium.

Speaking to the media at the stadium on Monday, Kisumu County Deputy Governor, Dr Mathews Owili said the match would put both the country and the county on the International map and open avenues for similar matches in the future.

“I welcome the South African Rugby League National Team and its delegation to Kenya on behalf of the Governor and the County Government of Kisumu, as we look forward to hosting an exciting contest between our nations,” said Owili.

“I also welcome everyone to sample our warm culture and amazing sites of this great county,” he added.

While acknowledging Springboks’ world rugby ranking, Owili said that it will be a great honor hosting and playing against them adding that the trials will cement the county’s status as a sports powerhouse and the same time open the country to other international events.

Paul Okong’o, Kenya Rugby League Kisumu Representative commended the undertakings put in place by the County Government and the Ministry of Sports towards the match.
