On the day Fredrick Mureithi and his younger brother, Victor Mwangi, were killed in Kitengela, Kajiado County, their mother Lucy Wanjiru says she was a disturbed woman, in the UK, where she works.
In her tribute during their burial yesterday in Mayu Village, Nyandarua County, Wanjiru revealed that she felt all was not right and decided to fast.
“I could feel in my spirit something was not going on well. I prayed and told God to protect you. I also fasted,” she tearfully said.
After making several unsuccessful attempts to reach them through social media networks, she involved her parents, friends, and pastor.
Wanjiru relocated to the United Kingdom in 2018 and had always communicated to her children through social media platforms.
“I hoped nothing had happened to you, but deep inside I was not at peace,” she said.
On the third day of trying to establish Mureithi and Mwangi’s whereabouts, the news was all over that bodies of four young men had been taken to the City Mortuary in Nairobi, on Sunday, August 8. Of the four, two were her sons. The other two were the brothers’ friends, Nicholas Musa and Mike Onduso.
The four were lynched by herders who mistook them for cattle rustlers.
They had stopped in the Kisanju area of Kajiado on that evening to repair one of their motorcycles after celebrating Victor’s 25th birthday.

Wanjiru said she had earlier spoken to them. Fredrick told her he would go to go to church, but Victor was clear that he had dedicated the day to his birthday.
“I remember they said a prayer for me and asked God to bless me. Victor, who could irritate me from time to time, said I was a beautiful mother.”
However, she warned Victor, as weeks before his brutal murder he had reportedly escaped death several times.
“We spoke at length about your 25th birthday celebrations, bearing in mind how recently death was following you, almost every day urging you to be extra careful, to pray for protection and safety,” she recalled.
The deflated woman, who has now been left without a child, wished the worst for the killers of her sons.
She added that life would never be the same again without the two young men, who were running her projects in Kenya.
“If tears could bring you back, I have cried for you, if words would bring you back, I have tried. Words cannot express my loneliness and this painful experience. My heart is broken, this load is too heavy. I will always cry for.
“You have gone too soon. I will forever miss and cherish you. I love you so much, my sons. Continue watching over me as you rest with the angels, till we meet again,” the emotional mother concluded.
