Kitutu Chache South Member of Parliament, Richard Onyonka, has been arrested over alleged incitement.
Onyonka was picked up by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kisii town this morning.
The legislator who is being grilled by the sleuths was arrested over utterances allegedly bordering on hate speech and incitement to violence.
His arrests comes hours after the Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji, requested the Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai, to probe the MP over statements he made during a political rally.
Haji noted that Onyonka needs to be probed in respect to a video clip that has been circulating on social media where he appeared to make remarks that can amount to hate speech.
“The alleged remarks captured in the video clip may be contrary to Article 33(2) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, which provides that the right of freedom of expression does not extend to – propaganda for war, incitement to violence, hate speech or advocacy for hatred,”.
The move comes after a similar directive was issued in regards to remarks made by Meru Senator Mithika Linturi.
This comes two days after Meru Senator Mithika Linturi was arrested for using coded language that is said to be hate speech.
Linturi has been released on a Ksh5 million bond or 2 million shillings cash bail over incitement remarks.
Nakuru Chief Magistrate Edna Nyaloti ordered the Senator not to contact witnesses either through proxy or directly.
