Makueni Governor and Muungano Party leader Kivutha Kibwana has reached out to Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition presidential aspirant Raila Odinga concerning zoning claims.
Kivutha has urged Raila to stop zoning of regions as this was against the agreement that they had before joining Azimio
“YE Odinga, you promised the 22 emerging political parties that there would be no zoning of regional enclaves. We joined Azimio upon your word and in good faith,” Governor Kibwana posted on his Twitter handle on Sunday 8th May.
Kibwana further noted that regional zoning killed small parties in previous coalitions and that having a repeat of the same would undermine democracy.
“In both CORD and NASA, the so-called small parties faired badly. Let us not guillotine democracy,” he said.
Kibwana’s sentiments come days after the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader Alfred Mutua accused the Registrar of Political Parties of denying his party a copy of the Azimio coalition agreement signed by the Azimio affiliate parties.
“The registrar of political parties (ORPP) and Azimio coalition party have refused to give us a copy of the Azimio coalition agreement deposited with the ORPP we signed to form the coalition. What games are they playing? “
Mutua further promised to give a way forward to their supporters on Monday, 9th May.
On Monday, May 9th, 2022, the party will make a decision on the way forward bearing in mind the plans to zone our party aspirants out and the deadlines set by law,” Governor Mutua said in a recent tweet.
