Zachariah Nyaora Obadia, the main suspect in the Forest Road video in which a woman was assaulted by boda boda riders, causing a countrywide uproar, has broken his silence regarding the matter.

While appearing in court on Wednesday, March 16, Obadia denied being the ring leader in the incident in which a group of riders assaulted the motorist.

He noted that he was shocked to see his image splashed across media outlets yet he was just passing by at the accident scene.

“I was riding past the scene while carrying a client. Someone photographed me at the scene during the chaos.

“A few days later, I was shocked to watch my pictures being aired on television alleging that I was the main suspect in the sexual harassment,” stated Obadia.

The suspect, however, promised to cooperate with law enforcement agencies as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) conducts investigations.

“I escaped. I am not opposed to being detained for ten days so that the police can complete investigations against me,” he added.

The suspect was arrested on Monday, March 14, at the Kenya-Tanzania border in Sirare as he tried to flee the country after DCI circulated his photos as a wanted man.

He was immediately airlifted to Nairobi where he is expected to be processed before being charged in a court of law.

Since the incident occurred on March 4, the suspect had been on the run after escaping  DCI’s dragnet in Mukuru Kaiyaba, through a sewer duct.

A video clip, which went viral, captured the woman being sexually harassed by a group of bodaboda riders.

The ugly incident caught the attention of President Uhuru Kenyatta who ordered a crackdown on rogue motorcycle riders across the country.

Uhuru further called for reforms in the sector, including fresh registration of riders across the country, after waiving the Ksh 5,800 fees.
