Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been voted the English Premier League player of the month for September.

The 36-year-old beat Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo, Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger, Allan Saint-Maximin of Newcastle, Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah and Watford’s Ismaila Sarr to the accolade.

Ronald made an impressive start since returning to Old Trafford, scoring five goals in six appearances, including three goals in the league.

He scored twice on his debut against Newcastle at Old Trafford and followed with a goal in United’s dramatic win at West Ham.

This is the fifth time Ronaldo has grabbed the award having won four times in his first spell with the Reds.

Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was also named Premier League Manager of the Month after guiding City to a perfect January.

Arteta saw off competition from Pep Guardiola Jurgen Klopp, Graham Potter and Dean Smith to clinch the award.

After a tough start to the season, the Spaniard helped Arsenal bounce back in style as they beat Norwich, Burnley and Tottenham in the north London derby.

The Gunners had made their worst start to a season in 67 years after losing all three games they played in August against Brentford, Chelsea and Manchester City.
