Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has issued a warning to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that abuse development money.

Matiang’i alleged that some organization leaders emphasize paying themselves large salaries and allowances over diverting the funds towards improving the lives of individuals in the community. Matiang’i was speaking in Nairobi at the introduction of the annual NGO report.

“NGOs should develop a culture of taking care of various resources to ensure that funds are used for the intended purpose. If it’s for the purpose of development, then let it do so,” he explained.

NGO’s that will not have amended their data will not be registered, according to Matiang’i.

He stated that over 6000 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) operate without official license.
