An MCA allied to Governor Alfred Mutua is on the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission radar over shoddy construction works in his ward.
Caleb Mutiso who represents Kiima Kimwe-Muvuti ward in Machakos Town is facing allegations of using his closeness to the governor to have all construction tenders in the entire ward awarded to companies which he jointly owns with his brothers.
Voters now want EACC to investigate how Mutiso has turned into an overnight millionaire by allegedly using his position and closeness to the governor to have his companies do all roads in his ward, citing it as a case of conflict of interest.
Irate residents who spoke to Weekly Citizen cited cases where the MCA is even paid before the start of the work armtwisting county finance officials where he invokes the name of the governor to have his way.
The Mutua Maendeleo Chap Chap MCA who now drives a Toyota V8 and Isuzu double cabin, the latest model on the market, besides putting up a new mansion in Mua is the talk of town and his ward where residents are wallowing in poverty and lack of water.
The residents now want EACC to carry a proper lifestyle audit to ascertain his new source of wealth.
They also demand that two companies – Cadi Carriers and Mwova Agencies – associated with the MCA’s brothers be investigated on how they were awarded roads works in the ward through single sourcing. Cadi Carriers is already tarmacking Mwanyani-Ikulu road while Mwova Agencies is murraming Eastleigh-Kathemboni road.The two companies are owned by the MCA and his brother.
The MCA is said to have threatened Kenya Urban Roads managers to have him awarded the tender by invoking the name of Uhuru Kenyatta’s head of presidential delivery unit Waita Nzioka who happens to come from the area and is actually a cousin.
The company did not go through the procurement process and residents are complaining that is why he was doing shoddy works.
The residents who are now planning demonstration against the MCA accuse him of carting away water pipes in the name of expanding the road thus denying them access to clean water.
The MCA is said to be building his warchest for a bigger political seat and has been overheard bragging how he will give area MP Victor Munyaka a run for his money since he has set his eyes on the Machakos Town seat held by Munyaka.
The residents said EACC and CID director George Kinoti should immediately commence investigations on both the MCA and his companies and help to unravel the financial syndicate that is stealing public funds in the name of doing roads.
The same companies, according to residents are doing county projects financed by World Bank in addition to doing street lighting in Kiima Kimwe-Muvuti ward.
