On Sunday evening, January 9, Dalmas Adwet Winyo left his house to join his friends at a bar in the Kiembeni area of Kisauni in Mombasa County. Unfortunately, that would be his last day alive.

The 31-year-old, who was better known as Rambo, was not just a popular electrician in the area, but also had immense interest in local politics. He was the chief campaigner of one of the aspiring Members of the Mombasa County Assembly (MCA), according to his younger brother, Randy Meltus Otieno.

On the fateful night, Rambo and his friend were allegedly joined by an aspirant who had tagged his team along in the bar.

It did not take long before a confrontation broke out and ended tragically.

Otieno told Litkenya.com that his elder brother was killed around 3am.

An MCA aspirant was arrested after he surrendered to the police and was taken to court as one of the main suspects. He was released on a Ksh50,000 bail despite protests from the prosecution side.

“I believe more than one person was involved in subduing my brother. He was a huge man, and, therefore, two or three or more people must have played a role to overpower him,” Otieno said.

The victim was stabbed in the neck with a liquor bottle that damaged a key blood vessel, leading to excessive bleeding. He has had a cut in the chest.

The postmortem results revealed the cause of death as haemorrhage due to a stab wound caused a blunt object.

A detective from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), who is actively investigating the matter, told litkenya.com that eight persons had recorded statements with the police.

“A bar attendant told us that there was a fight. We have collected several exhibits, including a chrome Vodka bottle from the scene. That’s all I can say for now,” she said.

Another investigator familiar with the case said the motive behind the killing had yet to be established.

“As of now, we have no evidence to show that he was killed for political reasons but anyone with such information can come forward and record a statement. We are still pursuing more suspects,” he said.

The family is now asking the police to expedite investigations and bring the killers to book.

The victim will be laid to rest in Nyakach, Kisumu County on Friday, 28th January.
