Busia Jubilee gubernatorial candidate Lucas Meso has appealed to the voters of the area to consider personality and candidate’s track record and not political vehicle ahead of the upcoming General Elections.

Meso who is the former Managing Director of Agricultural Finance Corporation is seeking to use the ruling party to replace the outgoing Sospeter Ojaamong who is exiting the stage after serving his two constitutional limits.

He said he is rallying behind former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in the Presidential race further remaining optimistic of clinching the hotly contested seat which has attracted several aspirants.

“I will use Jubilee party which is one of the main affiliate parties of Azimio and I am very much hopeful I’ll win because in me I have alot to offer and my track record speaks for itself. I want to urge electorate of this great county of Busia to prefer leaders based on personality and not party euphoria because it boils down to individual capabilities” affirmed Meso.

Meso disclosed his primary focus, if elected, will be to transform the agriculture sector to make the county food-secure.

He said for any society to be productive, its members must be healthy adding that availability of sufficient and healthy food is a key determinant of good health.

He further noted his administration will allocate adequate funding to the agriculture sector to guarantee its steady growth.

The aspirant said Busia has fertile land and it is ironic that thousands of people in the county can hardly afford three meals a day.

If the land in the county is appropriately utilised, it can produce enough food for residents and have surplus for sale to other counties and internationally, he said.

“It is my intention to ensure that Busia will be one county that will be remembered for attaining food security. You have seen why we have a lot of problems among our young people and sometimes people are genuinely poor because governments have not taken deliberate efforts to productively use these people. I intend to ensure our people are fully utilised,” Meso added.

He is expected to square it out against former Member of Parliament for Funyula Constituency Paul Otuoma who secured the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket after flooring current woman representative Florence Mutua.

Meso is a career banker with a rich experience spanning over 25 years in Senior Management positions in the Banking and Finance sector having built his iconic professional reputation of being a turn-around specialist.

Others eyeing the seat include DAP Kenya’s Dan Mogoria, Nambale MP John Bunyasi who is vying on an ANC party ticket.

Deputy governor Moses Mulomi had been expected to be in the race for the ODM ticket but pulled out at the last minute.
