A faction of Methodist Church in Meru has come out to attack their presiding bishop Joseph Ntombura whom they say is killing the church.

The leaders who gathered on Monday, July 26, 2021, want the church to go the devolution way and its power decentralized as opposed to how they say bishop Ntombura is running the house of God.

Led by the Reverend Meshack Kanake who was ordained as the
president of Mt Kenya region on July 18 in Maua, the leaders called upon all
the Methodist Ministers and members to join them in a bid to revise the
direction the Methodist Church was taking.

Regional Coordinator Gerishon Mwiti asserted that the
resolution for the Methodist Church to go regional was made in 1996 but this is
yet to be implemented, thanks to bad leadership.

“Each region should have its own share of the church’s money
instead of controlling it from Nairobi,” he said.

“We love him (Ntombura) but we hate the things he had
done to the church. We also love his wife (Pauline Ntombura) who has maybe helped
him in all things that had happened,” Kanake said.

On the same note, the church’s treasurer Kinoti G.K emphasized
that they are not a splinter group, but full members of the Methodist Church that
is against Ntombura whom they accuse of disrespecting leaders and using power
irresponsibly and nepotism.

“He created a post for his wife in the church to siphon
money whereas there are so many ministers on mission that are suffering due to
financial strains,” he said.

Today’s meeting by this group was in response of Ntombura’s
statement that he made on July 18 while attending a service at a Kirua church in
Buuri, Meru. He had said that the Kanake-led teamwas a splinter group
within the church.
