Exiled Kenyan lawyer Miguna Miguna: The court has ordered him to get emergency travel documents from either the Kenyan High Commission in Canada or the mission in Germany within 72 hours to enable him to travel to Kenya
Exiled Kenyan lawyer-cum-politician Miguna Miguna breathed a sigh of relief on Monday, 22 November 2021, after the High Court issued a new directive regarding his much-anticipated return home.
The judge further ordered Air France to allow Miguna to board a flight to Kenya upon presenting the travel document.
On the other hand, the Immigration department in Kenya has been ordered to allow the barrister to gain entry into the country through his Kenyan Identity Card (ID) after which they have been directed to grant Miguna a fresh passport within 7 days.
Reacting to the news, Miguna confirmed he will be immediately heading to the Kenyan Embassy in Berlin to get the travel papers.
He also thanked his legal team for their exemplary performance.
“Congratulations, Dr Khaminwa, Nelson Havi, Esther Angawa, Valentine Khaminwa and Abdikadir Osman for demonstrating once more that those who flagrantly disobey court orders are agents of doom. I’ll be at the Kenyan Embassy in Berlin in the next 2 hours. The struggle continues,” Miguna wrote on Twitter.
Congratulations, SC Dr. Khaminwa, @NelsonHavi, @AngawaEA, Valentine Khaminwa and @kadirosman06 for demonstrating once more that those who flagrantly disobey court orders are agents of doom. I’ll be at the Kenyan Embassy in Berlin in the next 2 hours. The struggle continues.
Miguna also clarified that he will not be visiting the embassy to apply for fresh citizenship since the court’s order is a confirmation that he is Kenyan by birth.
I’m not visiting the Kenyan Embassy to apply for citizenship which I never lost. The Court has once more AFFIRMED that I am a Kenyan by birth who must enter Kenya as a Kenyan upon presentation of my National ID card. The Embassy has been ORDERED to issue a travel document.
