A day after he was picked to chair the presidential campaign board of ODM leader Raila Odinga, Laikipia Governor Nderitu Mureithi has affirmed her support for the former Prime Minister.

Addressing his supporters in Laikipia, the county boss thanked the opposition boss for appointing him to the influential and powerful post.

“I am grateful and very ready to help Raila becomes the fifth President of Kenya,” he said.

He was selected alongside former Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) commissioner Elizabeth Meyo, who will be the board’s Chief Executive Officer and Secretary. Meyo is currently a financial consultant with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Nderitu said he will unapologetically campaign for the AU High Commissioner for Roads and Infrastructure and craft strategies for Raila’s team.

“I want everybody to hear this; on August 9 I am voting Raila as my President and I am sticking to that, come what may,” he affirmed.

The governor, who was elected as an independent candidate, however, insisted that he will defend his seat although not with the ODM party.

He implored the locals to give him another term to finish the projects he has initiated.

“I will be seeking re-election using the Party of National Unity (PNU) party. My track record speaks for itself,” Nderitu said.

At the same time, he praised Raila as the best candidate to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, claiming that Deputy President William Ruto is dishonest.

“As an economist, I can assure you that Raila is the right man to lead Kenya after Uhuru. He has his priorities right and I know he will improve the economy of this country.”

Before joining politics, Nderitu, who is a nephew of retired President Mwai Kabika, worked with the World Bank as a financial expert.
