‘Mimi si Mtoto’: Raila Addresses Chaos in DP Ruto’s Kisumu Tour

ODM leader Raila Odinga has distanced himself from the violence meted out to Deputy President William Ruto in Kondele, Kisumu County, on Wednesday.

Speaking to Kameme TV, the former Prime Minister denied sponsoring young men to pelt the DP’s convoy with stones.

He asserted that the second in command, just like any other Kenyan, has the liberty to travel to any corner of the country without being heckled.

“I’m not a child to pay the youth to stone Ruto. Some were claiming that I fear him and that’s why I mobilised the stone-throwers. The truth is that he is not a person who can give me sleepless nights. Let him continue loitering and barking,” he said.

The AU High Representative on Roads and Infrastructure also defended his party, saying the Kisumu ODM branch has requested members to allow the DP to sell his manifesto peacefully.

However, the opposition boss pointed out that leaders should be careful with the words they use so as not to provoke voters.

Dr. Ruto accused the former Premier of organising groups to attack his convoy.

“We want to ask the ODM leader to stop thinking he has the monopoly of violence. Hiring jobless youth to stone me was wrong. As a country, we should not be talking about political intolerance at this age,” he said.

In the meantime, Raila also spoke about his relationship with co-principals of the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) – Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Gideon Moi (Kanu), and Moses Wetangula (Ford-Kenya).

He said he was ready to work with party leaders and denied that President Uhuru Kenyatta was coercing them to support him.

“I have never seen the President forcing them to back me. We engage in fruitful discussions,” Raila said.
