Days after ODM leader Raila Odinga visited Kenol town in Murang’a County, Deputy President William Ruto was in the same location this morning.

Both had a great time interacting with the locals, but there is something that Kenyans on social media had to compare.

Photos released by the two main presidential candidates’ online teams show that the former Prime Minister gathered a huge crowd than that of Deputy President William Ruto.

It is a claim that has been contested by the DP’s supporters, arguing that crowds mean nothing.

Additionally, they say the second in command was in Kenol in the morning hours when not so many people had left their homes.

On the flipside, Raila’s diehards opined that it was clear the residents are tired of the ‘hustler narrative’.

They claimed that the opposition was making inroads in a region that has traditionally voted against him.

Raila’s backers also demanded videos from the DP’s Kenol meeting to analyse properly the number of people who attended.

Reactions

These are some of the reactions we have captured for you:

Donald B Kipkorir: “Other have gone to Mt Kenya so many times, baba went once and the ground shifted. Those with eyes will see.”

Wakili Mwangi: “Mt Kenya people will come out in number to see Raila, but will never vote for him.”

Eric Wainaina: “We are tired of Ruto’s politics of bottom-up. He has been doing this for four years, it is time for fresh air.”

Gichohi Gathii: “I like the creativity of DP Ruto’s cameraman. When the people are few, he zooms to bring large pictures to avoid getting background view.”

Njoki Njoroge: “If this is the crowd the DP can get in Murang’a, which is his perceived stronghold, then he needs to be worried. Baba is slowly taking charge.”

Dickson Nyaga: “Pulling crowds and entering State House are two different things.”

Robert Mash: The Mountain is behind Ruto, only a very small percentage will vote for Raila.”

Simon Wachiuri: “The ground is hostile. We have not seen videos from the DP and the usual caravans.”
