Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi has told off Central Organization of Trade Union (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli over a decision to convene a political gathering to be held in Bukhungu in Kakamega.

While confirming that he won’t attend the December 31st meeting, Mudavadi said Atwoli has no business calling for political meetings when as a matter of fact he is not seeking any elective post.

“We must observe democracy. We don’t want to hear that there is a meeting where someone who is not seeking any political seek comes up and says now I want to determine who shall be the MP is what constituency, who shall be the MCA, who shall be the governor in which county, who shall be the women rep, who shall be the senator and who shall be the President in this country, No.” Mudavadi charged

While delivering what he described as a serious message and which marks a turning point in Western Kenya politics, Mudavadi maintained that he will not be pushed into supporting any candidate for the top seat.

He believes the meeting will be used to declare that the region is behind Raila’s candidature. He, however, insists Kenyans have a right to determine their political destiny.

“Kenya is a democratic country and we are approaching the elections. The votes that will count are those that will be cast on the ballot by the electorate. Anything else is empty talk.” He said

Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula supported Mudavadi’s views in condemnation of Atwoli noting that “there is no provision in our electoral law for ethnic primaries to determine candidates”

“Wewe mzee (Atwoli) chunga sana maisha yako. Usicheze na watu. We oppose grad standing by selfish characters who think by being on the frontline they are better than others.” He said
