Following the political merger of Deputy President William Ruto of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and Musalia Mudavadi of Amani National Congress (ANC) at the Bomas of Kenya, in the event hyped ‘Mudavadi’s Earthquake’ in the political scene, many are now speculating that the DP might consider picking Mudavadi as his running mate as he eyes Kenya’s fifth Presidency.
However, according to Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, this might not be the case as UDA delegates had reportedly come to an agreement that DP Ruto’s running mate has to be a person from Mount Kenya.
“I don’t think it is going to be possible for DP Ruto to make ANC leader Mudavadi a running mate. That seat is reserved for Mt Kenya,” he said.
“Nobody should peddle lies by saying that we are considering Mudavadi for the deputy president’s role. We have been with Mt Kenya allies for a long time, and we agreed that it is a bigger constituency that we cannot afford to leave behind. That position principally belongs to them.” He added.
Barasa further asserted that they resorted to team with Mudavadi since they have like aspirations, most importantly, to revive the dwindling economy and improve the lives of the citizens throw an economic model that empowers the ordinary citizens.
“The Amani leader understands our economy, was Minister for Finance when Kenya was not doing very well. This is what the Hustler government will benefit from, forget talks of positions.”
