Multichoice Dismisses Cementers Claims On Kileleshwa Demolition – Kenyan Business Feed

Content Distributor Multichoice Kenya has said that the intended demolition of its proposed offices in Kilimani is not meant to jeopardise evidence in an ongoing court case.

This follows a claims by Cementers Limited that the building in Oloitoktok Road in Kileleshwa is the subject of criminal proceedings at the Nairobi Chief Magistrate’s court.

According to Multichoice the proposed offices of which Cementers Limited was the contractor, are being demolished pursuant to Enforcement Notices issued by the County Government of Nairobi and the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) condemning the said building and requiring its immediate demolition due to safety concerns.

“As a law abiding citizen, MultiChoice Kenya is complying with the said Notice in cooperation with and assistance of the relevant authorities. The exercise is being carried out with utmost professionalism and care to the workers involved and the communities neighbouring the site,” A statement from Multichoice Kenya read.

Cementers had raised Issue with a Request for Quotations (RFQ) that was issued by Multichoice that sought to hire “a Project Manager to oversee and manage its upcoming project of demolishing the said building situated along Oloitoktok Road at Kileleshwa, and gave a deadline of midday on Friday, 18th.

In a notice Issued on Behalf of Cementers Limited by Messrs Nderitu & Partners Advocates, the contractor sought to block other firms from overseeing the demolition of the building.

However Multichoice Kenya in a rejoinder noted that the said building is not in any way involved in any ongoing court case.
“The Building is not an exhibit in any of the ongoing civil, arbitral and criminal cases between the parties.” Multichoice Kenya said.

Multichoice is now accussing Cementers for deliberately misleading Kenyans with their media statements to misrepresent lawful compliance.

“This demolition has nothing to do with the ongoing legal matter between MultiChoice Kenya and Cementers Ltd. The demolition of the building is not subject to those proceedings and any false accusations made against MultiChoice Kenya are libelous and will be addressed through legal recourse,” multichoice said.
