Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya made a political excursion of Mt. Kenya East to drum up support for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s Presidential bid in the August 2022 elections.

Munya, who served as Governor of Meru between 2013 to 2017, called on area residents to back the Azimio la Umoja coalition, reiterating that that is where their interests have been adequately accommodated.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is retiring and he wants to ensure he leaves us in good hands. That is why he is working with Raila Odinga. He wants to ensure we have our share in Raila’s government,” Munya told a rally in Chuka, Tharaka Nithi County.

The Agriculture CS, who has since shelved his desire to go back to Meru as Governor, says the Kenya Kwanza Alliance under the stewardship of Deputy President William Ruto does not warrant the support of the region given that it is yet to offer anything significant and which can transform the fortunes of people of of the larger Mt. Kenya.

Even parties from this region, he (William Ruto), wants nothing to do with them. Who will be speaking and bargaining on our behalf in his government?” he posed

He (Deputy President) is not offering anything to us. He is only making promises such as Kshs. 1 billion to women, yet this has already been given by the government. This money is even being looted and it doesn’t reach our women,” he said

Munya insists that Azimio la Umoja is a partnership where each member will negotiate for their interests if it forms government.

He described the DP as an intolerant leader who does not deserve to lead the country.
