Kenyan songsmith and cultural proponent, Muthoni Drummer Queen, evoked recognition as a huge billboard displaying her photo shimmer the streets of New York, US, at the historical Times Square, a major center of the world’s entertainment industry.
Her images went live following a feature in Spotify’s EQUAL Music Program for December.
This is after she released her fourth album dubbed “River” which seeks equality in the music industry for both male and female artists in terms of airplay, marketing, and all that entails music business.
She encouraged her fellow female musicians to come out in numbers and fight for their positions in the fast-paced landscape of the entertainment world.
“When they don’t give you a seat at the table, make your own with and for the people that love and celebrate you as you are,” she says.
“Peep that dope picture in Times Square! #river #Muthonidrummerqueen. Equal playlist Artist of the month sitting pretty on Times Square. (@timessquarenyc) Thank you, @spotify. Keep running those #RIVER numbers up!” She added.
The phenomenal Muthoni started her music career as a chorister at school, and since then, she has received many accolades including, recognition as the best artist in the 2020 Swiss Music Awards and was featured in Vogue, an international magazine based in New York.
After graduating from university, she founded Blankets and Wine Festival, which has been providing a platform for various artists to display their art since 2008.
Muthoni also founded perFORM in 2019, whose objective is to guide artists into acquiring innovative artistic skills to build a sustainable music career.
Her recent album, River, and the track entitled “African Fever” will be featured on EQUAL Africa and EQUAL Global playlists.
