Democratic Party (DP) presidential aspirant Justin Muturi says he has embarked on a mission to re-establish the standing of the political outfit in Kenya by taking it to levels witnessed when retired President Mwai Kibaki was at the helm.
After its founding in 1991, Muturi noted that the party had established strong grassroots support throughout the country. This, according to Muturi, is the heritage bestowed upon the party by former leaders and he intends to regain that status, especially in the upcoming August election where he expects a large number of aspiring leaders to fly the party’s flag
“You all know where DP has come from. We must reclaim its former glory,” said Muturi.
He made the remarks while addressing a gathering of grassroots party delegates in Manyata, Embu County.
Muturi said the Democratic Party remains open to talks with any like-minded political formation that shares its ideals.
“I have been approached severally by coalitions and I want to officially state that the Democratic Party of Kenya is ready to enter into alliances with other parties but on strict conditions.” He disclosed
Said Muturi as he briefed media teams: “The DP commands respect in every part of the country owing to its strong roots. Let all, including the aspirants who want this party’s ticket, be prepared to pass the integrity test.”
Muturi also handed Democratic Party life membership certificates to several candidates seeking vie in all electoral tiers of a great general election.
