National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has called for the inclusion of the youth in steering the growth and development of the country.
Muturi, who is the Democratic Party presidential flag bearer, pledged to ensure that the youth are represented in all government ministries if he becomes President.
Muturi said the youth can no longer be referred to as the leaders of tomorrow, noting that their time had come to take positions of responsibility.
Muturi said: “The youth are over 60 percent in our population. They are well educated and have many skills. All they need to be given are opportunities.”
The Democratic Party presidential flag bearer noted that he would place the youth and women in top positions in government, noting that both categories of the population are key to economic growth.
He was addressing grassroots leaders drawn from Laikipia at a Nanyuki hotel.
He commended the laying down of transport infrastructure by the last two governments, but emphasized that time is up to economically empower the youth and women.
Muturi said another of his top priorities would be sound agricultural and food policies to make the country food-secure.
“You cannot have development and security without first having sufficient food supply,” said Muturi.
