Mwai Kibaki’s Funeral to be Covered by Only MCK-Accredited Journalists

The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has announced that journalists assigned to cover the State Funeral Service and Memorial Service of late President Mwai Kibaki at Nyayo will be issued with special passes.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, 27th April, the council noted that only MCK accredited journalists will get the passes.

“The Media Council of Kenya will issue special passes to all journalists assigned to cover the State Funeral Service at Nyayo National Stadium on Friday 29th April 2022 and the Memorial Service at Othaya Stadium on Saturday, 30th April 2022,” the statement read in part.

MCK announced that every media outlet will be awarded 20 passes for journalists and support staff.

The council further stated that journalists applying for cards will have to meet the MCK stipulated accreditation requirements before receiving their cards.

Before sending their journalists to the services, media houses are required to send names and national ID numbers of those assigned in excel format to [email protected] by 4 pm Wednesday, April 27, 2022.

MCK will be in Nyeri on Friday, April 29 from 9 am to issue cards including for Nyeri-based journalists.

The late President Mwai Kibaki died on Friday 22nd April 2022 at the age of 90.

His body has been lying in Parliament Buildings since Monday 25th April to give Kenyans a chance to pay their last respects before the burial on Saturday, 30th April at his Othaya home in Nyeri County.
